World-Cleanup-2012

What-we-do

“Let’s Do It 2008!” was a civic movement that started in 2008 in Estonia. On 3rd of May more than 50.000 volunteers picked up 10.000 tons of waste across Estonia and served as a good example for other countries.

Armenia was on board of the global action called “World Cleanup 2012” organized by “Let’s do it! World”. “Let’s do it! Armenia” aimed at uniting all of our strengths in order to clean up Armenia’s natural and cultural monuments, parks, and landmarks. On September 15th 2012, the movement realized the biggest Armenian volunteer initiative to date, Armenia Without Garbage. The big clean-up idea united about 2600 volunteers, 50 organizations. During one day 600 cubic meter of garbage was collected from 50 places in different regions of Armenia. During the campaign, educational events teaching about recycling were organized in order to raise awareness among the general public. A series of seminars in Yerevan and regions of Armenia were organized with the goal of raising the level of eco-education for students both in schools and in universities. It was also organized a chalk drawing contest by the theme of recycling and clean environment. This contest was in the form of a flash mob as the event will take place in cities and villages all throughout Armenia.
