Brain Awareness Week


“Brain Awareness Week” 2013 Educational Campaign in Armenia

 

On 11-17th of March, 2013 the “Brain Awareness Week” educational campaign organized by Young Biologists Association NGO was held in Armenia. The aim of the campaign was to provide information to pupils about brain diseases, particularly about Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease and about achievements in biomedical research, in the field of their therapy and etc. This is a global campaign coordinated by “Dana” foundation and is carried out in 100 countries worldwide. Within the framework
of the campaign Young Biologists Association NGO realized educational seminars and competitions about these neurodegenerative diseases in 10 schools of Armenia. Informational posters were also posted in the schools. Five schools from Yerevan and five from other regions of Armenia participated in the campaign. Among them were №185, №196 secondary schools, “Ohanian”, “Poqrik Ishxan” educational complexes, “Quantum” college in Yerevan and Avshar and Gegharqunik villages’ secondary schools, c. Metsamor’s №2 high school, Qanaqeravan village’s «Poqr Mher» military educational complex, Hrazdan’s №10 high school. Approximately 200 pupils participated in the campaign.

 

“Brain Awareness Week” 2014 exhibition-contest “Neuroscience in 

 

“Young Biologists Association” NGO, in collaboration with the Yerevan State University Student Scientific Society, organized ”Neuroscience in Art” exhibition-contest during the “Brain Awareness Week”. 23 participants submitted 35 art works (photographs, paintings, sculptures, handicrafts etc.) introducing brain functioning, nervous system diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s diseases, etc.) by means of art and also everything related to neuroscience. All works were exhibited on March 10-16, 2014 in the central building of Yerevan State University. The 3 winners were selected by the voting on Facebook and jury’s votes. The winners received valuable prizes (e-readers, books etc.). Besides, our partners, the Student Scientific Society, Rotary Club Yerevan and Medicine Producers and Importers Union (MPI Union) of Armenia also prepared prizes for the participants. All other participants received the souvenirs and diplomas.

 

“Brain Awareness Week” 2015 “Neurological diseases around us” public campaign

On March 16-22, “Young Biologists Association” NGO, in collaboration with the Yerevan State University Student Scientific Society, organized “Neurological diseases around us” public campaignin the frame of “Brain Awareness Week 2015”.The “Neurological diseases around us” public campaign was aimed to raise public awareness about neurodegenerative (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease etc.)  diseases.The stand-up banners were exhibited on March 16-22, 2015 in the central building of Yerevan State University. Each banner presented one public figure or celebrity, who has been touched with neurodegenerative disease (e.g. Alzheimer disease, Parkinson disease etc.) and the necessary information about disease.The quiz-contests on neurological disorders were organized via Young Biologists Association’s Facebook page and the seven winners received the prizes (books etc.) and certificate of participation.On 18-20 of March, the movie screenings, discussions and presentations in YBA office was organized.Topics of presentations were Parkinson’s, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Alzheimer’s diseases.The Brain Awareness Week celebrates its 20 years.

On March 14-20, the “Young Biologists Association” NGO, in collaboration with the Yerevan State University Student Scientific Society and Institute of Physiology NAS RA, organized “Meet your brain” public campaign.Main goal “Meet your brain” public campaign was aimed to raise public awareness about neurodegenerative diseases, brain sections, their structure and function.The stand-up banners were exhibited on March 14-20, 2016 in the central building of YSU. Each banner presented part of a brain and neurodegenerative diseases touched with it and the necessary information about disease. The educational materials were distributed among the students. The quiz-contests were organized during exhibition and via YBA’s Facebook page and the winners received the prizes. The movie screenings, discussions and presentations in schools was also organized. The demonstrative visit to Institute of physiology and public discussion with neurobiologist was carried out.
